Kuntowijoyo’s Scientification of Islam & Post‑Secular Society

This study revisits Kuntowijoyo’s concept of scientification, which calls for demystifying Islamic texts and integrating Qur’anic discourse with general sciences so that religious knowledge can address contemporary challenges. Rather than privatising faith, the approach brings religion back into dialogue with the modern world.

Using Hans‑Georg Gadamer’s contextual interpretation, the authors argue that scientification aims to articulate Islam as rahmatan lil alamin (a mercy to the world) by preserving its spiritual essence while presenting its teachings in a universally accessible language. By bridging faith and reason, the process makes Islamic discourse relevant within post‑secular society.
